The Computer Science Graduate Program (PPGCC) of UFPA was founded in 2005 as an Academic Master's Program. The Doctoral Program was offered in the second half of 2015.

Recognized by CAPES, under the terms of Ordinance No. 84, dated 12/22/94, and by the Ministry of Education and Sports, pursuant to Administrative Rule No. 694, dated 06/13/95, the Program, in the last CAPES evaluation, related to the three-year period 2010-2012, obtained grade 4.

The student body has remained with an average of 30 students each year along this period. The importance of PPGCC to society was quickly recognized through the "Technical Highlight in Informatics" award in the Education category, granted in 2006 by the Society of Users of Information Technology and Telecommunications of Pará (SUCESU-PA) to value and encourage the development of information and communication technology sector of the State of Pará.

Despite being a relatively new Program, it reached concept 4 in CAPES (triennial evaluation 2010-2012), with a basic guideline to increase the critical mass and the production of scientific research in the area, in the search for solutions to regional, national and global problems in science and society. This position enabled the PPGCC to have its proposal for the Doctoral Degree in Computer Science at UFPA approved, with the first group starting in the second half of 2015.

In 2022, the program reached a total of 250 Master's defenses completed.
