It is with great satisfaction that the coordination of the Graduate Program in Computer Science (PPGCC) at the Federal University of Pará (UFPA) announces that it has been awarded a score of 5 in the preliminary results of CAPES' four-year evaluation (2017-2020).
CAPES evaluates graduate programs in Brazil with scores ranging from 3 to 7. The increase in PPGCC-UFPA's score from 4 to 5 is a victory that demonstrates the program's maturity, positioning us as a regional highlight, allowing us access to more funding opportunities, and increasing the program’s visibility on a national level.
CAPES highlighted the significant evolution of the program in recent years, particularly in the training of high-quality professionals. Since the master's program began in 2005, we have graduated 271 master’s students. Since the doctoral program began in 2015, we have already awarded 23 doctoral degrees. Our graduates are active in teaching, research, and outreach, as well as in various important companies across different regions, from cities in the interior of the state to locations abroad.
During the 2017-2020 period, PPGCC had the participation of 20 permanent faculty members and 3 collaborators. The program graduated 73 master’s students and 13 doctoral students. Additionally, our scientific output included 397 papers published in qualified conference proceedings and 165 articles published in qualified journals.
The next step for PPGCC is to maintain the high quality of human resource training (master’s and doctoral students), scientific publication, and social impact. Furthermore, the program aims to improve aspects related to internationalization to achieve a score of 6 in future evaluations. We are aware that this will be a complex task given the challenges ahead, but we count on the support of everyone.
We are very pleased with this result and would like to thank all faculty members and students involved in this achievement!
